Hair Type 1, of all the hair types, tends to be on the oily side (oily scalp with excess sebum-scalp oil production), but can also be normal or even dry. When on the oily side this type often presents as a combination hair type; oily scalp and oily hair at the scalp, then dry hair the remaining length. This can make hair very difficult to manage. What is more, this hair type is typically curl resistant and at can require the use of a lot of mousse or hair spray to style. Which can sometimes leave hair dry and damaged.
When this hair type is normal, it is generally easier to manage and find product. When this hair type is dry it can be very itchy and very flaky and it can be challenging to find a product that moisturizes the scalp and hair without weighing it down. Finding a shampoo that will clean the oily scalp and hair without stripping it and finding a conditioner that will moisturize the dry hair without weighing it all down can be challenging leading to frustration and the use of multiple products directed and solving one problem or another.
